Budget Crunch: Camping
This is the second installment in our Budget Crunch series, Fluid’s top tips on how to save money throughout the year. Stay tuned monthly for more!
Camping is one of the most popular activities for warmer weather. Who doesn’t love roasting marshmallows over the fire, scouting out the best campsite, and spending some quality outdoor time with friends?
However, spending a weekend camping can really add up! While being outside might sound like an inexpensive way to spend a weekend, camping can easily rack up a huge bill. Here at Fluid, we wanted to give people access to what they need, when they need it – without having to buy it. Check out our tips to camp on a budget, below!
Colorado is full of beautiful, spacious campsites. If you want to browse and reserve campsites in Colorado, click here. You can reserve up to 3 months in advance, and you can filter your search for waterfront, site sizes, and more!
However, if you want to save a couple of bucks and not reserve a site, take advantage of the dozens of first come, first serve sites available in the state. Check out a map of them, here.
Pro Tip: The best time to camp is during the week – but if you have work, leaving early on a Friday afternoon will still help give you a head start.
The more high quality camping supplies you bring with you, the better experience you’ll have. And, it’s really easy to head to REI and spend a quick $500 on things you’ll barely use.
Don’t give your bank account a heart attack – whether it’s a camping stove, tent, or paddle-boards, Fluid’s got you covered. Don’t spend money on things you use once or twice a season – rent from your community on Fluid instead!
- 8 Person Tent – Rent for as low as $10/day
- Coleman Portable Grill – Rent for as low as $5/day
- Standup Paddle-board – Rent for as low as $20/day
- Yeti 20 qt. Cooler – Rent for as low as $5/day
Pro Tip: When you’re searching Fluid for camp items, see if one lender has multiple things you need to bring. Less lenders = less pickup stops!
