Listing your truck on Fluid Market takes less than 10 minutes. Follow these easy steps to put your lazy truck to work:

  1. “Add Item” from the menu in the Fluid Market app and select your vehicle category — box truck, cargo van, pickup truck, or other.
  2. Take (great!) photos of your vehicle. Fantastic photos perform for our lenders, with borrowers reserving vehicles 3-4x as frequently when they include high quality photos from a variety of angles.
  3. Add vehicle info, including your license plate, VIN#, make, model, and year. Create a descriptive, eye-catching title to capture the attention of borrowers, briefly describe your vehicle, and confirm the location.
  4. Choose a rate. You can select up to three rates — hourly, daily, or weekly. You’ll see suggested prices in the app, and you can check out comparable vehicles on Fluid Market to get a sense of pricing.
  5. Instant Book. If your vehicle is accessible anytime without you being there (for example, by lockbox), you can select our Instant Book feature to allow borrowers to automatically book your item. Turning on Instant Book is a great way to increase your reservations.
  6. Add pick up & drop off instructions. Provide borrowers detailed instructions for vehicle pick up and drop off, as well as key access, and any additional fees.
  7. Publish your listing and watch your bank account grow! You’ll be paid via direct deposit.

If Fluid Market is new in your neighborhood, active promotion is key to helping neighbors and your local community learn your truck is available to rent. To jump start your side business, share your Fluid Market listing (along with a picture) on Nextdoor or other community bulletin boards. Nextdoor is a private social network that connects you with nearby neighbors, giving you the opportunity to share your vehicle’s availability within a close community.

And your business is built on creating connections and sharing experiences that highlight the ease, cost, and time-savings of renting a vehicle on Fluid Market. Nextdoor is a fantastic community that can help you maximize your Fluid Market side hustle.

The numbers speak for themselves: our lenders who post vehicles on Nextdoor see more frequent transactions and have more repeat customers.   • Already on Nextdoor? Great! Not yet on Nextdoor? No problem, just download the app and register by verifying your address.
  • Go to the “For Sale & Free” section, where you can list your vehicle for rent.
    • Important to note: Nextdoor’s community guidelines do not allow individuals to post rental items outside of this category–if you do so, your posts may be removed.
  • Create a title for your vehicle. Make it short, punchy, and direct. We recommend something like: “Rent my pickup truck on Fluid Market”.
  • List the price — can be your hourly, daily, or weekly rate.
  • Write a brief description in the “Details” section. Be sure to include the Fluid Market link for your vehicle so potential renters can go directly to your site.
  • Add high-quality photos that show off your vehicle. We recommend you include interior and exterior photos shot in good light. Share seasonal pictures of your vehicle.
  • Post your vehicle in the “Automotive” category.
  • Finally, choose who can see your item. We recommend that you select “Your broader local area” to ensure that both your immediate neighbors and close communities see your vehicle.

To make sure that your vehicle stays at the top of the Nextdoor “For Sale & Free” feed, be sure to respond promptly to any questions and regularly post a brief comment. The story of Fluid Market — and how you can make $1200/month renting out a box truck

“Why would I pay $18K for a company to move us from Virginia to Denver, when I could buy a box truck and do it myself cheaper?” Fluid Market’s founder, James Eberhard asked me. He and his family needed to relocate, but the moving fees were outrageous — as a DIY man, he decided to buy a box truck himself for $15K and pay a few contractors to help him with the heavy lifting. (Needless to say, his wife wasn’t very happy when he arrived home with this new toy — but that’s a whole other story.)

Once he got situated in Denver, he still had the box truck on his hands — instead of selling it, he decided to rent it out on his app, Fluid Market. For those who don’t know, Fluid Market allows you to make income off renting vehicles to your neighbors. Users can rent out anything from a pickup truck to a Tesla Model X — and they can offer it to borrowers for a hourly, daily, or weekly rate. Within the first 100 days he was in Denver he rented it out 50 times, at $75/day. He paid the box truck off within the first year, and continued renting it out after his payoff for profit.

Ironically, the moving company that helped James move into his Denver home ended up renting out that box truck to start their moving company. They couldn’t afford the cost of purchasing their own truck, so with the protection of Fluid Market’s insurance, rented the box truck for their jobs going forward. From there James purchased a few more box trucks (and convinced others to join him), and built Fluid Market into what it is today — a place where you can rent just about any type of vehicle or tool.

How can you also start making $1200/month on a box truck? It’s a lot easier than you think. Here’s how you can get started:

  1. Research Craigslist for 14′ to 24′ box trucks, or reach out to local branches of truck companies (like Penske or Uhaul) if they’re planning on selling any used trucks. The average purchase price is anywhere from $8K to $20K — once you list it on the app, you can rent it for $40 — $100/day to pay it off within the year.
  2. List the truck on the app — add photos, a description with specs, and your hourly/daily/weekly rates.
  3. Park the truck near an Amazon Fulfillment Center (for Amazon Flex Drivers to use), storage facility, or around your neighborhood (you’d be surprised at how many neighbors need to use it!).
