Forget Fantasy Football. Investing with Fluid pays off.

We had the chance to catch up with Chris Murphy, who began lending four box trucks on Fluid six months ago. Chris, a Denver-based mortgage lender and a liquor store owner, decided to buy box trucks to lend on Fluid as he saw synergistic opportunities with his existing businesses. In the near term, Chris was interested in generating cash by renting out his box trucks to the Fluid community, while longer term, he aims to integrate the trucks into his business models by providing moving and delivery services for his customers.

Chris earns about $900 per month per truck, for a total of over $3500 each month — that’s more than $42,000 annually. What’s most important for Chris? His investment in renting trucks on Fluid doesn’t cost him a significant amount of his own time. He finds it easy to communicate with borrowers through the in-app messaging feature, and receives great customer care support from the Fluid team. Chris is also seeing several repeat customers, including moving companies who need to increase their own fleets. He keeps his trucks parked in high profile locations, ensuring their accessibility for borrowers.

“Lending trucks on Fluid has been a super profitable experience for me, putting over $3500 in my pocket each month. The best part? I put in about the same amount of time I do on my Fantasy Football app,” said Chris Murphy, Fluid lender. “The Fluid team has helped me at each step of the way — from sourcing the vehicles, to maintenance, to customer care — allowing me to save valuable time. Given the demand from borrowers I’m seeing, I’d like to expand my fleet on Fluid — if I can make it work for four trucks, I can make it work for 100 trucks.”

Listing your vehicle on Fluid takes less than ten minutes and can put thousands of dollars in your pocket each year. Interested in learning how you can get started? Check out our lender success page and connect with us: customercare@fluidmarket.com

Celebrating two years of Fluid Market with a $25K donation to Denver non-profits

We launched Fluid Market in Denver just about two years ago, and our vibrant community of entrepreneurs, lenders and borrowers inspires us everyday. As we approach our second birthday, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to give back.

We’re proud to announce that we’re committing $25,000 in Fluid Market credit to non-profit organizations in the greater Denver metro area. Twenty-five organizations will receive $1000 of Fluid Market credit each to help further their mission. The wide variety of items available on Fluid Market can be incredibly helpful for local non-profits as they host events, transport their teams and goods around town, and run their daily operations.

Our partnership with Trips for Kids Denver Metro is a great illustration of how Fluid Market credit can help jumpstart charitable efforts. Trips for Kids Denver Metro is dedicated to giving underserved and at-risk youth the opportunity to experience and learn about the natural beauty of Colorado from the seat of a mountain bike. Fluid Market has partnered with Trips for Kids Denver Metro to provide box trucks to transport the bikes to the foothill and mountain parks that the kids explore.

Here’s the best part of our birthday gift: we’re looking to our Fluid Market community of lenders and borrowers in the Denver area to nominate local non-profits making a difference. Know a great local non-profit that could benefit from the items available on Fluid Market? Submit your nomination here by Friday, May 11 @ 5 PM MT. Our team will review nominations and announce the winners in weeks following.

Fluid Market is thrilled to give back to the Mile High City, and we thank you for your help in nominating fantastic local non-profits committed to improving our community.

No Time? These Side Hustles Don’t Require Any.

If you’re looking for ways to earn some extra cash with a side hustle, you’d likely encounter tons of ways to make more money. If you have a full-time job, children, or already have multiple jobs and very little spare time, most of those options aren’t realistic (unless you give up sleeping). At the end of the day, time is a precious commodity and most side hustles require it. For example, popular side hustle apps like Uber, Task Rabbit or Dolly can generate real money but are time suckers.

However, there are a number of side hustles that don’t require a lot. We’ve gone through the lists for you and found some side hustles that require little to no time. Check them out below and kick off your 2018 year with some extra money in your bank account!

Rent out property on AirBnb

If you have spare rooms, renting them out on AirBnB can really rake in some cash with minimal time spent. By taking advantage of features like minimum night stays and additional fees, the average AirBnB host makes anywhere from $850 — $950 a month. If you rent out two rooms at $800 a piece per month, you’ll have $19K by the end of the year.

Pro Tip: Read blog posts by hosts like this and read AirBnB’s host guide to get started, learn more about the process, and get insider tips.

Spend Money through Ibotta

The mobile app, Ibotta (also based in Denver!) helps you make money off your shopping or grocery receipts. It’s basically a rebate app, so you can earn anywhere from 25 cents to 5 dollars off everything you buy. Just buy the things you normally do and make money off your purchases!

You can connect your bank account or PayPal to Ibotta and get paid out within minutes of earning the rebate.

Pro Tip: If you’re a coupon-er, you can still use Ibotta and get a rebate for your purchases. This will often result in getting an item for free!

Rent out a pickup truck on Fluid Market

Fluid Market is a mobile app that allows you to make income off renting vehicles to your neighbors. Users can rent out anything from a pickup truck to a Tesla Model X — and they can offer it to borrowers for a hourly, daily, or weekly rate. The side hustle on a pick up truck is incredible —  with the average truck lender generating $500/month. This means you can buy a ten-year-old extended bed pickup truck for $4,000 (or $140/month financed over 3 years) off Craigslist, and start making $360/month or $4300/yr. Lenders often buy a few trucks and their numbers multiply exponentially!

To get started, read more on Fluid Market’s website — there’s a blog post specifically geared towards vehicle lenders.

New year, new side hustle — start 2018 off with some side income! Try these apps out and start down the path of turning your side hustle into your main hustle.

The story of Fluid Market — and how you can make $1200/month renting out a box truck

“Why would I pay $18K for a company to move us from Virginia to Denver, when I could buy a box truck and do it myself cheaper?” Fluid Market’s founder, James Eberhard asked me. He and his family needed to relocate, but the moving fees were outrageous — as a DIY man, he decided to buy a box truck himself for $15K and pay a few contractors to help him with the heavy lifting. (Needless to say, his wife wasn’t very happy when he arrived home with this new toy — but that’s a whole other story.)

Once he got situated in Denver, he still had the box truck on his hands — instead of selling it, he decided to rent it out on his app, Fluid Market. For those who don’t know, Fluid Market allows you to make income off renting vehicles to your neighbors. Users can rent out anything from a pickup truck to a Tesla Model X — and they can offer it to borrowers for a hourly, daily, or weekly rate. Within the first 100 days he was in Denver he rented it out 50 times, at $75/day. He paid the box truck off within the first year, and continued renting it out after his payoff for profit.

Ironically, the moving company that helped James move into his Denver home ended up renting out that box truck to start their moving company. They couldn’t afford the cost of purchasing their own truck, so with the protection of Fluid Market’s insurance, rented the box truck for their jobs going forward. From there James purchased a few more box trucks (and convinced others to join him), and built Fluid Market into what it is today — a place where you can rent just about any type of vehicle or tool.

How can you also start making $1200/month on a box truck? It’s a lot easier than you think. Here’s how you can get started:

  1. Research Craigslist for 14′ to 24′ box trucks, or reach out to local branches of truck companies (like Penske or Uhaul) if they’re planning on selling any used trucks. The average purchase price is anywhere from $8K to $20K — once you list it on the app, you can rent it for $40 — $100/day to pay it off within the year.
  2. List the truck on the app — add photos, a description with specs, and your hourly/daily/weekly rates.
  3. Park the truck near an Amazon Fulfillment Center (for Amazon Flex Drivers to use), storage facility, or around your neighborhood (you’d be surprised at how many neighbors need to use it!).
  4. Fluid Market’s team is here to help: They provide their lenders with tips to promote their vehicles, where to find vehicles to purchase, and other lender tips to get your side hustle off the ground. They will also provide you with a tracking device and lockbox for autonomous lending!

Get started today by downloading the app, creating a user profile, and listing your vehicle.

Meet The Team: 5 Fun Facts About Andrew!

Every month, we feature one of our awesome Fluid team members. This week, meet Fluid’s Business Development Manager, Andrew!

You always know when Andrew’s arrived at the office because he has the biggest presence. His booming voice, his giant smile – and his mustache is pretty epic. He started in BD just a few weeks ago, but is already killing it.

Andrew took some time to sit down with us and chat New England, Vonnegut, and Lyft. Check out his fun facts, below!

1. What’s your favorite thing about Fluid?
Nobody says, “that’s not my job.” It’s great to work for an organization where your teammates are more interested in group performance than on individual success. A rising tide floats all boats. Fluid is a great example of that.

2. Where are you from?
I’m from Boston, so I am a proud New Englander. If you want to hear what it’s like to win 10 Championships between your 10th birthday and your 27th, give me a call. We can talk about how Tom Brady is the greatest QB to ever play the game.

3. What do you like to read?
I’m a voracious consumer of print news: Times, WSJ, the Economist. I love following the butterfly effect of geopolitics. For example, how legislation in one part of the world, thousands of miles away, could trigger currency devaluations, or spark negative consumer sentiment, or boost popular support on a trade initiative back home. It’s wild how interconnected everything is.
If I’m reading fiction, I’m probably buried in something by Vonnegut or Hemingway.

4. What is your favorite app, other than Fluid? (;
Lyft – I’m a big proponent of products that make things easy (which is why it’s so great to work at Fluid). So when I want to go someplace in the city without having to drive, which is fairly often, Lyft is my go-to.

5. Describe yourself in three words.
Ginger. Entertaining. Analytic.

We are excited that our team continues to grow- check our our careers page to see what positions we’re hiring for!
